Shattered Hopes & Roads Not Taken
2024

Shattered Hopes & Roads Not Taken, displayed in the Tel Aviv Museum of Art as part of the 2023 Haim Shiff Prize, revisits crossroads in Jewish history from the late 18th century until the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948. Through monumental charcoal drawings, the exhibition delves into narratives marginalised in favour of the hegemonic story of Zionist realisation. This work is based on in-depth historical research, uncovering forgotten or repressed historical events and ideas as an act of "unearthing." Rather than nostalgically embracing the past, the extensive drawing installations undermine the present through the power of the imagination. Striving to represent multiple voices and currents, they inquire: What would have happened if history had taken a different course?
